DREVER Nigel Drever, January 19, 1920 - July 16, 2016. One of the Few. Nigel was brought up in Dundee and still has many relatives living in Scotland. Nigel joined the RAF before World War II, receiving his wings as Pilot Officer in September 1939, the month the war was declared. Evacuated from France on the Lancastria, he was able to survive its subsequent destruction with the reputed loss of thousands of lives. In 1940 he joined 610 Squadron flying spitfires, and fought in the Battle of Britain. He was shot down in March 1941 and survived the fall from a partially opened parachute. From here he was taken to Stalag Luft III as a POW, where he passed his time digging tunnels and playing bridge. Nigel then endured the Long March from Poland to Germany. After the war he emigrated to Africa and then travelled widely, living in Malta and Andorra and finally settling in the U. K. He peacefully ended his days in the Woodley Ward in the Royal Berkshire Hospital. He is survived by Carol, from his first marriage, Angus and Clair from his second marriage, as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchild. He will be much missed by his family and friends. All donations to be given to Woodley Ward, Royal Berkshire Hospital. Any enquiries regarding the funeral, please contact A. B Walker 01189 573650.
