LESLIE BUICK Les Buick was born in the 'Pow' in 1936 before moving to the Muirton, remaining a proud 'Muirton Laddie' until his passing on October 19, 2020. His working life grew from paper boy, to butcher's boy, to baker's boy at Adie's the baker, to a joinery apprenticeship at Paxton's before he embarked upon his National Service. Outside work was as busy as work itself with the Boy's Brigade, Railway Athletic Club and St Leonard's Church Youth Fellowship playing a large part in his life. Connections forged then remaining life long friends. Les married Agnes Taylor (also born in the Pow) in 1959, together until Agnes' passing in 1996. During this time Les trained as a teacher in building and joinery subjects, initially working at Nelson Street, then moving up to the Perth College campus where he worked until his retirement. It was a great source of pride to Les, meeting college students, apprentices and colleagues in the street or reading Yellow Pages and pointing out to his family the Perth businesses that were now being run by people he had taught. Firm but fair and with a real interest in bringing out the best in others. not only in the building trade but in rural skills and outward bound activities. A believer in life long learning who helped students build futures for themselves based on the skills learned at Perth College Now reunited with Agnes, the family would like to thank all the 'Auld Perth Bairns' for their condolences, each story shared about Les has been a great comfort.
