As a younker I remember Davy and I would dander along the railway tracks, he would gie me sweets and tell me tales of whit nakens would get up tae. He would say aye! there are a puckle of glaikit gadgies aboot. As we grew older we saw one another less for I joined the army. However on leave I would meet Davy and it was not unknown for John Barleycorn to be imbibed. We would fair get peevie and dander hame in the gloaming. If we were lucky we would get a hurl and be hame in nae time. John Barleycorn would have us haver outside the house where a window would open and we would be told tae wheest. We would part and in we’d go only for me to trip ower the jugal and make a rackit. In the morning when told of our escapades we would feel richt moich. In truth we never trauchled or raxed ourselves, we simply went our ways.
Alas! Davy; is no longer with us he has gone up through the pearly gates to join family and friends in the hereafter. R.I.P. David Stewart Virescit vulnere virtus (Courage grows strong at a wound).
