Deepest condolences

Mark Lawrence Andrew Moore

10 July 2021
May I offer my deepest condolences to the family at the loss of such an active mind, generous heart and great benefactor of Dundee. First cousins we were, yes. But at our first phone contact in 2010 neither of us realised it. I am so desperately sorry that six years later, when we first met in person, we were past knowing each other. Aileen, you called me on the afternoon of Boxing Day eleven years ago, on behalf of Monsignor Hugh Canon McNally, to assist in my research of that other great benefactor of Dundee, and our mutual great great uncle - Canon Michael Phelan. Like you, Aileen, he was a strong voice for social justice in the city and beyond. You will have known, as I now do, of the thirty-two years of charitable service that the venerable Canon devoted to the welfare of parishioners and their children in Dundee; that he spoke up for the deprived and the dispossessed wherever he found them; that he too sat on the City Council to further the interests of those who had little more than the clothes they stood in. And so it has been with you, Aileen, throughout your life. It was in your blood, in your genes all along. But mostly,. it was in the quality of your own heart and mind. So, although we did not know each other, Aileen, I feel very privileged to know of your life and of the love and deep regard you have left in your wake. We are all the better for it.. Rest softly with your ancestors, Aileen, to whose mighty company you shall now add your own fame. Sincerely, Mark Moore - and on behalf of my wife Karen, son Justin and daughters Grace and Sylvia
