McKEAN Gloria Patricia McKean (known as Trish) born 14/12/1923, died peacefully on Sunday, October 10, 2023, aged 99 years and 10 months, at Walton Nursing Home, Leven. Her parents, Alexander McKean and Margaret Galloway, emigrated to Canada from Dumbarton, Scotland in 1916. Trish and her older brother Alexander McKean were born in Oshawa, Ontario. Her chosen career, accountancy, brought Trish to Edinburgh for training in 1958. She returned to Canada, working for many years as an accountant for the Canadian Government where she was the first woman accountant in her department. Trish retired to St Andrews, Scotland, in 1981 where she forged a new life. A longtime activist for feminism, gender equality and animal rights, she continued to develop ideology and action on these issues. She was a matriarch to the lesbian feminist community in Fife, a wonderful, open hearted friend to a wide range of people, and a well-kent figure cycling around St Andrews. She will be greatly missed by her many friends in Scotland, Canada and around the world. Trish has left her body to medical science. There will be no funeral.
